She will present the common pedagogical principles and practices of the worldwide Forest and Nature School movement, and how learning through immersive play with nature is beneficial for today’s children, She will describe various models of nature programs and where and how they can be implemented. Participants will be able to experience some of the hands-on activities with natural materials that are typical of these programs. She will provide a brief overview of some of the growing body of research on the emergent, experiential, play-based, place-based, and inquiry-based practices that are the core of Forest and Nature Schools. Finally, She will offer a few ideas on how conventional preschools can learn from these models and how they can complement conventional curriculum and ways of learning.
主讲嘉宾介绍:
Robin Rogers co-founded, a decade ago, the Cedarsong Nature School in Washington State, US, and collaborated in designing, implementing and teaching its forest kindergarten. She is co-author of the book Nature Notes Journal: Documenting Your Emergent Curriculum and the Cedarsong Teaching and Program Manual and contributed to the book, Forest Kindergartens: The Cedarsong Way. Robin serves on the Advisory Council of the newly-established American Forest Kindergarten Association From her current home base in North Carolina, US, she continues to promote, train, design and teach in nature immersion programs in a variety of settings. This requires her to keep current with research on and trends in the Forest and Nature School movements. Robin raised 3 “free-range” children who taught her to nourish her own curiosity, wonder and joy of continual learning. Formal studies have included courses in health, healing, art, and special education.
